BCU 2 Star Award
A multi boat award using both Canoe and Kayak. Discover and understand how the boat, water and paddle interact. The BCU Two Star is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddle sport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience and creating the desired movement of the boat.
WHO IS THE 2 STAR COURSE FOR?
Paddlers should already have experience of paddling in 2 different craft and have had experience of taking part in a water journey of upto 2-hours. Ideally they should also hold the BCU 1 star award. However, this is not essential. The BCU 2 star award is also a pre-requisite for the UKCC Level 1 coach award.

BCU 3 Star Training (Canoe or Kayak)
Develop the skills required for the assessment whilst improving your paddling skills, awareness and confidence to paddle in a “moderate” water environment (Grade 2 or wind up to force 2/3). You will learn personal skills and techniques to enable you to be led as part of small group and assist with the smooth running of the trip. The 3 star awards are discipline specific.
WHO IS THE 3 STAR TRAINING COURSE FOR?
You should already hold the BCU 2 Star award or be at the appropriate standard and be able to prove you have taken part in 3 journeys of at least 3 hours or have been on grade 2 water. Please refer to the BCU pre requisites for this course.

WHAT WE PROVIDE: A boat can be provided at £20 per boat. However, it is prefered for candidates to provide their own at this level of award.

BCU 3 Star Assessment (Canoe or Kayak)
Performance at this level indicates the candidate can be considered an intermediate paddler and can be led as part of a group in “moderate” water. Also a pre-requisite for the UKCC Level 2 Coach Award.
WHO IS THE 3 STAR ASSESSMENT COURSE FOR?
You should already hold the BCU 2 Star award or be at the appropriate standard and be able to prove you have taken part in 3 journeys of at least 3 hours or have been on grade 2 water. Please refer to the BCU pre requisites for this course.
